Type Locality and Naming

NW Gansu-south Qinghai border region (middle Qilian). The Aoyougou Fm was named by the No.2 Party of Regional Geological Survey, Gansu Bureau of Geology in 1974. The type section is in Aoyougou, Qiqing Town ship, Sunan Yugu Autonomous County, Gansu Province. Lower formation in the Zhulongguan Gr.

Synonym: （熬油沟组）


Lithology and Thickness

The Aoyougou Fm is composed of severely altered basic volcanic lava and metamorphosed volcaniclastic rock, intercalated with tuffaceous slate and carbonate rock. It is relatively stable in lithological character, but slightly changeable in thickness. This formation is 2000 m thick.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The lower boundary relation was unknown, but it is often in fault contact with Beidahe Gr.

Upper contact

It is conformably overlain by the Huashugou Fm

Regional extent

NW Gansu-south Qinghai border region (middle Qilian). It is distributed in west sector of Qilian Mts. and stretches west into Altun Ms. Sunan Yugu Autonomous County, Gansu Province.
